I can’t even begin to go into much detail with the pics we took…there were hundreds! Here is just a sampling of what we saw on the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater.

It was wildebeest calving season. This little fellow was probably about 12 hours old, and just getting the hang of his legs. He was jumping awkwardly around, and we just laughed and laughed at him.  The other wildebeest were just looking at him like he was crazy and pretending not to know him.

Bill with flamingos on Lake Magadi in background.

More flamingoes:

These black-backed jackals were actually cutie-patooties, and they pranced along in this cartoon-like manner so much that we actually had this silly “jackal song” that we sang whenever we saw one. I guess you’d had to have been there.

Cape buffalo are scary creatures…they kill more people in Africa than any other animal. They are territorial, and they will charge you if you happen upon one.

This one didn't seem too happy with our presence.

This "Mr. Muddy" fellow seemed to have enjoyed wallowing in his muddy puddle.

Flamingoes on Lake Magadi:

Hartebeest with a Thomson Gazelle (a “tommy”)

Hippos: because their skin is so sensitive, they must wallow in the water all day long. If they are out of the pool during the day, they will end up with a horrible sunburn…For some reason, these fellows were taking a quick snooze out of the water.
